Doug provided the following info: These lures were made by W. J. Grube of Delaware, Ohio. He was born in 1874 and died in 1954. Grube produced a large variety of the earlier rubber lures. The oldest fishing lure patent to his credit that I have found so far is dated 1917. He also had several patents related to the automotive industry. The box in the lower left corner is printed with a patent date of 1926. Bill's Lucky Strike Minnow is probably the lure most associated with Grube. It's interesting that prior to WW II, he commonly printed a single or multiple swastika on his lure cards along with the words Good Luck. (Prior to the Nazis the swastika was widely considered to represent good luck.) |
